I really like the Paul Chen line, and I wanted to have a discussion with other Paul Chen Sword admirers, about your Favorite Sword Under $1,000. For Me it has to be the Ronin Katana, I love that PC used the story of the 47 ronin to inspire him for this sword, I have the movie Swords of Vengence which is a great movie about the fall of Ako Castle, and centers around Lord Asano http://www.overstock.com/Books-Movies-Music-Games/Swords-Of-Vengeance-DVD/1498930/product.html after I get the Great Wave Katana, Wakizashi, and Tanto (2nd favorite PC Sword Line), I think I will be taking advantage of Jason's new Layaway option, and buying the Ronin Katana.

Upon doing a little reasearch I found the Ronin Katana is a little bit more than $1,000, so I will change my favorite under $1,000 to the Bushido Katana

I wouldn't mind a Wind and Thunder katana, or maybe another sword with a large blade.

When I bought the Tiger it was way over $1,000 but as Jason now has it marked up at $950 it should qualify for this thread and is the best IMHO.

I really like the PC line also, my favorite is the PC Shinto [no bohi] which is often overlooked by most people. This is the sword I use for everyday practice, I bought it 7 years ago so I can attest to it standing up to the test of time [very important to me].
I have never thought as the folded series of PC to be practical for dojo use [my opinion] although I do like them as collector or special occasion swords.
Personally I feel the Orchid and Tiger to be $1,000+ swords, no mater what deal Jason gives out [top quality]
I bought the Shinto to replace my original shinken, which I had 25+ years now. I retired it to my shrine room. The Shinto has a similar look, feel, and dimensions of my original shinken.

I agree with Dotanuki.
A folded blade doesn't necessarily mean it's a better blade except from an aesthetic point of view and the Shinto is a sword that's often over-shadowed by some of the other Chen non-folded blades.
I also owned a Series 1 Shinto with no Hi and only sold it late last year...it's not too flashy and one of the most authentic looking production katana on the market...imho.

The shinto has always looked nice to me, except the newer models have hi, and I despise hiX( I also want at least a 28 or 29 inch blade, because 27 usually doesn't feel right to me at all.

Agreed, for practical use, the forged is the way to go. I will soon have a PPK Elite for cutting, now I would like a folded blade just for aesthetic value

I use to be anti-bohi myself, now I am learning to like them, but if I have a choice I will still choose no-bohi, as for the length if I am going to be drawing it I need a shorter blade (like 26") because of some back fusions and arthritus in my shoulder X(, but for a pure cutter, I like a 27"+ blade
