Hi
I just purchased 2 tsubas from the Edo-period. They both have the thickness of 0.44mm .
Ive seen very thick Tsubas and thinner. Was the thickness of 0.44mm enough to eventually stop a cut from an opponent?
What was the normal thickness?

0.44mm :-O......that can't be right surely, or did you mean 4.4mm :-/
I don't think there was a standard thickness for tsuba and the primary purpose was to protect the hands from slipping on to your own blade and not serve as protection from others, although it may have in some cases.
