Well I finally got the odachi in my hands on friday. I really do like the tsuba, kashira and fuchi, so much so that I decided t keep them on the blade. The blade is absurdly long in the odachi style and the saya has a nice finish to it. The blade has not hamon, either etched or real and has China on the ura side but that can be buffed out. The tusba was carved out to fit the habaki into it since it had no seppa. I fixed that with some SOM $5 seppa and it really dressed up the sword, I did however had to redrill the mekugi-ana. I wrapped the tsuka with solid leather the way I saw most of the musuem swords mounted then added some Song Dynasty replica coins and pinned them in place. The shitadome was filled with pewter coin and I think I am done. For 90 buck this sword is well worth it to add an Odachi to your collection-unless some one wants to give me the PC version :)

Nice work, great result, very nice looking. I personally am not a fan of odachi or any longer style, but that's well done.

Rock on, Taygrd.

The remount looks pretty nice! I was curious though, when you disassembled the sword, it wasn't full tang, was it?

damn, what a monster, love the leather wrap and replica coins, if you didn't say it was a 90$ odachi, by the mounts I would thing it was a higher end one

how long does this odachi measures??

Thanks fellas,
TK it had a full tang/ nakago.
Cal- it is 5'6"
I did some research and found some musuem pieces that were mounted similiar and went with it. I was really pleased with the results.
I did not have an odachi in the collection and this one had a great price (Thanks Jason) and the fittings were really pretty good. I hid the mekugi between the seams under the wrap.
Cost:
Menuki- $4
Ito- $8
Seppa - $5
and one small pewter coin for the shitadome hole.
