This will be my new project.
My kawashima Warrior. I have refinished the saya. I change it from natural wood, to natural wood with a red oak stain.
Once I have the ito in hand, I will start the tsuka-maki. I think I'm going to do something different with this one.
Here is a before shot, and an after w/ just the finished saya and different tsuba.
The tsuba is the original from Maynar's remount. He was gracious enough to allow me to keep it, along with the menuki. Which i will use as well, granted I don't come across something else that catches my eye. The name for this katana when finished will be "Ikasu Mokuhon" (sharp tree)
Stay tuned.
Before shown w/ my shaku-hachi(a Japanese bamboo flute; translates to "one shaku eight sun"- 1.8 shaku and comically "fellatio" in today's nihongo higo)

Looks great Robby!! I love the difference the red oak stain made, and especially the way the sageo is tied. Very nice job!

Thanks KnightKat. I think it looks way better too. That sageo is my own creation. Although it isn't traditional, I find it nicer looking then most others, along with the others that I have created. I grew bored of the usual sageo that are out there.
Also, a little info for those of you whom do not know. Sageo translates to "sword knot". I have found that people tend to call the cord itself, sageo; however it is simply called ito, or in a more descriptive case "sageo ito". :)

So I decided to use the original ito. I simply washed it, then used my girlfriend's hair straightener to flatten it out. It worked great. Might be something you'd might want to try for yourself.
I decided to do hira-maki for this tsuka. I have never done this before, so I had no idea how to do it. I pretty much did it my own way, with my own end not. It worked out great. I may use the ito that is on the way when it gets here, but who knows.
So here it is, finished, for now.

Nice work as always, my friend. I appreciate the imagination you put into your sageo ito knots, this one is no exception.
That tsuba really sets off the piece well. I'm glad you could put it to good use. Funny, I bought the Gekkou in part because I didn't care for that tsuba, thus making it a good choice for a remount. But you seem to have brought out the best in it.
Rock on wit' your bad self! >:)

So I got some (faux) chocolate leather ito today. I decided to re-wrap this puppy with it.
I should have sanded down the emperor node and its partners, but I didn't know that it was going to effect the final product, till I finished it. Oh well.
Here it is.

Thanks for the compliment Robby but I know you're only saying that because it's true. :)
