One of my all time Favorite Samurai movies, Harakiri is a riveting story about the samurai code of honor. A tragic tale of a young ronin who is forced to commit harakiri, and his father in law who seeks revenge for the early demise of his son, and the brutal way in which it was carried out. If you like samurai movies at all, this is a must own. The story is unlike anything I have ever seen, great character development, a true piece of art. With all chambara movies I recommend you spend a little more and get the Criterion Collection edition of Harakiri, it really makes a difference in the quality of the movie. Available at most online stores (best buy, amazon, etc) I bought mine through Overstock (big surprise) http://www.overstock.com/Books-Movies-Music-Games/Harakiri-Criterion-Collection-DVD/1548388/product.html but do some searching around as the prices do change on the Criterion Collection movies from time to time.

I have Hara Kiri. It is a very powerful movie. Tatsuya Nakadai was a very worthy successor to Toshiro Mifune as he was winding down in his career.
