Tsuke is the cord that people use to tie up their sleeves. I know that Samuria often used their Sageo for this, but in more formal situations it appears that a wider, white peice of cloth was used. I am trying to find out if there is a specific name for this? What it was most likley made of? I almost looks like a Kimono Collar, but I don't think that is what it is, any help on this subject is greatly appreciated.

Hachimaki were the headbands often worn by Samurai, normally white, but in alot of Shinsengumi movies they have a metal plate attached in the front. Can anyone confirm or deny that these were real? If they were used does anyone know where to find one?

Brian,
This might answer your hachimaki question.

It appears they are still wearing the headbands you were refering to. I have no idea where you can find one at.

I know Tanemura Soke wears one. He is the founder of the Genbukan Ninpo Bugei and the Kokusai JuJutsu Renmei

Tsuke - to tie or attach

That is the definition for the tying of the sleeves, I "think" [I'm not really sure] what you are talking about might be refered to as a tsuke obi. I have seen black ones also. I know kung-fu sashes [obi?] are exactly the right length for using them as tsuke.

I saw that cartoon Afro samurai the other day, he wore a pretty nifty head band, you can even order one from the little book inside the DVD box. B-) Pretty cool huh!
