You never buy a sword at a Ren Faire, right?? Well maybe there are exceptions to every rule. My girl and I went to the NY Ren Faire this last weekend and as usual she wanted to buy me something (to be fair I had already bought her a number of things she had wanted). Now normally I shy away from buying swords at these events as they are usually over priced in the extreme or absolute crap. Last time we went I had gotten a nice warhammer from Mayhawke Armoury (don't bother looking them up they dont have a website???) Alot of what they had this time was Hanwei so I wasn't really even looking too hard, I mean why pay over inflated prices for what you can get online...I glanced at their daggers then I noticed a rack on the far end of the counter that was clearly not your everday, find it everywhere swords. So after about ten minutes of shoving my way past teenie boppers who wouldn't know a Claymore from a Gladius and another few minutes getting the counter help to get his mind off the unrestained boobage bouncing by, I got to check out the short katzbalger that had caught my eye...What can I say it was a sweet little sword nice heft, fit and finish wasn't bad under the prerequisite finger prints, smears and a bit of minor surface rust (easily removed with a scotch brite pad and metal glo). Now the fun part, How much was it?? Based on the other prices that vendors were charging I was fully expecting 3 or 4 hundred bucks, I was pleasently surprised to see it was only $150 not bad concidering the closest comparison I have seen is Darkswords which runs right around $300...So to bring a long story to a end my girl decided I needed it and bought it for me...

Very nice! I'm starting to come around to these strange euro swords. I went back to that stand twice and took a few photo's. I was looking at the two maces they had for sale, 250$ for the one I thought was nice, still two much I thought.Oh yeah I was there!

Right on the money Goose, the blade is 18in, 24.5in over all. I dont have a scale to weigh it but my guess would be about 2.5lbs.
It was the back up weapon for the German Landsknechte pikemen and was stout enough to chop off incoming pike heads...and other things.
Here's a pic of the hilt sorry about the quality all I have is my cell right now.

So BobO you were there too, not a bad little faire but I miss the one I used to go to in Shakopee Mn. it took a full day just to walk the whole thing... I missed the maces, I think I lucked out on this one...from what I've been able to find out Mayhawke bought out this guys stock a few years back when he got out of the business so it's probably been on their shelves since then.

So illmade, it looks as though you finally found your home defense weapon you've been looking for.
You can threaten them with the blade or beat them into submission/bloody pulp with the guard or pommel.
Or maybe just lob off incoming pike heads.
Wanker or Pike head? You decide! =))

From the title of the thread I thought it was a blade for castrating German cats but I've now learned a little more about swords and I think it's a great deal you got.

I like it very much and thanks for posting this topic S'. =D>
