Hello,
I have been looking for some time now a functional replica of Connor's katana from Highlander. I got one from global gear and well it was not worth the money they claimed it was worth so I had to send it back. Anyways I've still been looking and things. It doesn't have to be real ivory or anything crazy like that, just decently balanced, carbon steel, hand made, full tang and functional. I may of found one but I know nothing about the company and I do not want to get in the mess I got in last time ordering from a different company then swordsofmight. I am still waiting for the refund of a sword I got from Global Gear. Anyways here is their site, I was wondering if anyone has dealt with them before.

I am not trying to advertise or anything just wanted some input. Also was wondering if you guys here at swords of might would ever carry anything like that? I would rather buy from you :)
Thanks,
Dustin

I'm not really familiar with topicool but I wouldn't recomend one of those swords. The steel is all they address when they call it functional. The Handle needs to be as functional as the steel and imitaton ivory probably is not. Whatever abuse the blade will take if the tsuka will more than likely crack under a little use then you are back where you started or worse. The wraps on more traditional katanas help to hold the tsuka on and together in case of cracking, so the blade doesn't come flying out. While Highlander Katanas look good and may be made of good steel I would never trust that style of handle.

This topic was covered in the old forum, but alas, the old forum is no longer:cry:
Swords with ivory, or even fake ivory, were not meant for combat, so a functional sword is most likely not going to happen unless you go custom, then maybe someone could work out a way to make the handle functional.
Do a search on http://swordforum.com/ , I know this has been discussed there as well.

Some people search for the Holy Grail, fatenabu1 searchs for a true functional Highlander sword, with the same results.
Yes, I remember this topic on the old forum as well, as far as I know, nothing has changed since then, so I quess your Quest continues.:paladin:

Yeah, I remember posting on old forum but I didn't know if anyone has seen anything lately. I know swords like that are generally display only anyways. I emailed the people at topicool and they said it can cut through some cutting mats with no problems. I just found it hard to believe a sword that cheap being able to do so, thus I wanted opinions from people who have greater knowledge then me. But the quest is quite fun, sorry to but you guys from time to time about it. I have thought about since my fiance` is an artist have her make me a handle from some type of material and then buy just like a build it your self katana and use that blade in the custom made handle, I know all the measurements would have to be exact and things anyone have any idea how to do that?
Thanks,
Dustin

Albion used to make them, but I think the were $3000 dollars. Those are the only ones I have ever seen.

what would be a good material to make a handle out of? If I were to try to make my own handle and use blade from another sword?

I buy left over pieces from Sal all the time actually, I've purchased at least 3 tsubas, fuchi, and kashira sets from him that he tosses out from his Bushido katanas.

hey fatenabu1 i read on here some one said popler. I think plastic base epoxy would harden nicely and be easy to sculpt
ps. ou can buy a blade from atlanta cutlery corp. but I'd give it the once-over twice before mounting it.
