At one time I thought knew metals, I worked with copper, brass, and bronze.
But now with the new metallurgies I am not so sure. At my last job we worked with nothing but bronze, but they had it in different variations, at least 15, with looks from a dirty brown color to almost gold.

Because if he was planning on winning, he would need his saya to put his sword back in. And thoughts of winning or losing already spells trouble. You are not in the "No Mind" state.

J,If I didn't know better I would say you were waiting for that one.CORRECT! I gotta go to the library.

I guess I was. I just finished reading "The Lone Samurai The Life of Miyamoto Musashi" by William Scott Wilson (I've read a lot of his books lately) and I thought about that statement a lot since I read it. Plus the fact that he threw it in anger which further discombobulated him. We are talking about Ganryu Sasaki Kojiro "The Demon of the Western Provinces" on Mukaijima or Funa Island (later known as Ganryu Island), right?

I think I'm going to change my name to "j" it's easier to enter.

"What came first, the chicken or the egg?"
"What came first, the Question or the Answer?

J, right about now you should be receiving a whack across the shoulders with a shinai by a Zen monk! Remember, they only whack you so you don't fall asleep while meditating.

The only thing I truely know about Zen, is that I truely don't know a thing about Zen.

If I forgot the Question, does the Answer matter?

Is this martial arts enlightenment? and is this a Question or an Answer?

Reasons
The egg came first between the chicken and the egg because since evolution works through gradual mutatation something other than a chicken layed the first egg.

The other is slightly less obvious but just as clear -
The answer has always existed the question is simply our route toward finding it. Therefore the answer always comes first.

Contradictions and paradox,
There can be no Answer without the Question, much like Yin/Yang, Question/Answer. Even though the the Answer might be there before the Question , the Answer does'nt become the Answer until the Question is asked.
Awareness of being, so to speak, the two become one.
[Unless you are playing "Jeopardy" with Alex Trebek, then the answer is always first]=))

There can be an arguement made, that the Ancient Greeks discovered their own brand of Zen. Here read this;

"What came first, the chicken or the egg?"

I thried this one ages ago. Thought about it and realized that both answers are correct depending on your beliefs.

I believe in evolution, therefore to me, the egg came first as the offspring to the Chicken's ancestors.

If someone were to believe in divine creation, the chicken would have come first, as it would have been created by god along with all of the other animals.

I know I just missed the whole point of the post by answering the question, but I couldn't resist. When I answered that in 4th grade, I thought I was a genius.

My thoughts exactly Yaso, I just didn't want to post it. My religion dictates God made everything so these types of riddles mean little to me as I feel they are superfluous. Not trying to rain on the parade though! :)

A chicken and an egg are lying in bed. The chicken is leaning against the headboard smoking a cigarette with a satisfied smile on its face. The egg, looking a bit ticked off, grabs the sheet, rolls over and says ... Well, I guess we finally answered "THAT question!"

Although Brass is Copper and Zinc, and Bronze is Copper and Tin, Steel is iron and carbon...
there are many different TYPES of bronze, brass and steel all determined by the percentage of tin or zinc or carbon in the material.
You change the percentages to create different hardnesses, ductilities, wear resistances, etc. And each has a seperate name.
I have a list of the major ones at home but am too lazy to rush home and get it<g>.

Sairon

From the view of evolution, over time a creature similar to a chicken would change over a long period of time, until it became what we now recognise as a chicken. It would have to have been born from an egg, to a mother that is not genetically like a chicken, but very similar.

The chicken didn't just "pop" into existence.

Firehand10k
April 17th, 2008, 05:41 PM
Chickens as we know them to day were actually bred, by early farm culture, from Asian red jungle fowl. The many variations we know are the results of trying to get better flavor and more meat for the effort.

It still tastes good and its one thing I'm looking foreward to when I'm there this winter.

The word golf derives from the Dutch kolf meaning stick, club or bat. Many people think it means "Gentlemen only, ladies forbidden". This is an urban legend though.

Why are manhole covers round?

because the hole is round and a square wont fit duh!!! =P~ i know im an idiot lol

or these...

A round manhole cover cannot fall through its circular opening, whereas a square manhole cover may fall in if it were inserted diagonally in the aperture (A Reuleaux triangle or other curve of constant width would also serve this purpose, but round covers are much easier to manufacture.)

Round tubes are the strongest and most material-efficient shape against the compression of the earth around them, and so it is natural that the cover of a round tube assume a circular shape.

The bearing surfaces of manhole frames and covers are machined to assure flatness and prevent them from becoming dislodged by traffic. Round castings are much easier to machine using horizontal boring mills.

Circular covers do not need to be rotated to align them when covering a circular manhole.

Human beings have a roughly circular cross-section.

A round manhole cover can be more easily moved by being rolled.

If an automobile rolls over a dislodged manhole of another shape, the sharp corners could puncture the automobile's tire, whereas a circle doesn't have corners.

It's easier to dig a circular hole.
