I found these pictures of my second sword ever purchased, the "Dark Ronin Katana". Although it is niether a katana, nor owned by a ronin, I have always had an attraction to this little wall hanger for some reason. There is a funny story behind how I managed to acquire it in the first place. I remember it all like it was yesterday.
I was 16, without a credit card, and had my eyes set on this sword for quite some time. It was the summer, and I was spending a few months at my mom's house. I planned everything out and made my move. I "borrowed" my mom's credit card to order it online, and covertly reimbursed her by slipping $45.00 cash into her purse. I probably could have just asked her, but I didn't want to risk her saying no. A few days later, I got the rectangular package I had been awaiting and couldn't be happier. I thought it had ended there. I was wrong.
Long story short, my mom saw the charge on her statement, went to refute it, and was generally raising hell with the poor folks at amazon.com. Well when I caught wind of her struggle, I knew right away what the source of the problem was. I decided to do the responsible thing and tell her what I had done. I swear I heard her mutter something to the effect of "so thats where that extra cash came from". Nevertheless, no more than ten minutes later she announced that she didn't believe that I had paid her back, and that the only way I could keep the sword was to give her $45.00. She knew that I was being honest, but decided to use the situation as an excuse to cash in...
So there you have it. Thats why I paid $90.00 for a cheap wall hanger. I'm pretty sure I learned a lesson that day. Never give your mother a chance to cash in on your stupidity. Honesty is the way to go.
Well enough of the details, here are the pictures:

These are the pictures straight from the box. The sword had a very dull edge, yet was still able to perform amazingly clean cuts on the box it came in. Bear in mind I cut the box with nothing inside of it. That means no weight to keep it standing vertically. Blowing on it would have easily knocked it over. I wound up cutting this box about 3 times, the first of which was by far the cleanest. (you can see the bottom half of my first cut on the right hand side of the small chunk of box that has been cut off in the picture below.)
