Things to do with your Dad during Christmas Holiday!! :sword:

Well, you said your Dad was an axe man!!:dwarf:

Firehand, you got a cool family, like father like son. =D>

I loved the soundtrack, very suitable.

Wow, that was crazy! I watched that a bunch of times and I may have to get some Gen 2s now. They really seem to stand up. I think a Masahiro would have shattered....:-?

Send me one I'll test that theory:mace:
I think many of the japanese types would be more likely to break. I'm sure it would at least have broken the tsuka on many of the lower end swords.

Yikes, poor sword, but glad to know that it's all fixed up. You must not have been too happy though at the time...

Oh wow, I can imagine the feeling. I bet you weren't angry at all, but as soon as you saw the bend, you were hit by a massive wave of sadness and disappointment.

I had the same feeling when my brother flew a remote controlled airplane of mine into what had to be the tallest tree on the east coast. Oh well, at least you got it fixed.

I would like to say if that happened to me I would take a deep breath, do a little meditation and react calmly, yeah right. I recently let a friend of mine try out my PPKE, and he chipped the tip of the blade a tiny bit, not enough to get PO'ed about, OK I was a little irritated, but I was sending it in for some work anyways, and the damage should be easily repaired with a good sharpening.

I did manage to remain calm. I kind of expected it in some ways. That day we also used but Bushido Dragon Katana but I wanted to let them try both the Japanese and Western blade styles. I selected the Gen2 Chaos to chance on their first cutting experience because even if it is my favorite one it is actually my most replaceable western blade, still in production and $100 less than my next functional western.

Wow that sucks! I would hate to have that happen to my swords. What kind of sword was that?

Generation 2 Chaos Sword. As soon as the weather lets me I'm gonna go make a new vid with it. Show how well its recovery went.

I says something for the temper of the blade that it did not break. It also says a great deal about of your charactor that you did not break down and cry or swear like a sailor. Does the swords cutting edge retain well?

Very well. I cut before this and since (Just haven't gotten more video yet) and its still the original edge and going strong. I may need to sharpen it soon though if I keep going with all of the plastic.

What Taygrd said. Your dad looked crest fallen enough.I'd still hint around for a new sword. have you talked to clyde about it yet? I'm sure he would be relived to hear that you don't blame the sword. Most swords would have broke for sure. why to be Firehand.

Yeah I already talked to Clyde. No one mentioned replacement sword since it was obvious user error. I just asked what to do about the fact that even though the handle never showed any signs of loosness the pommel pivoted back and for a few degrees. A few quick hits with a punch and large hammer took care of that. I also PMed him at SBG to let him know the vid was up as I had told him I'd post it but haven't heard anything about it yet from him.
My dad actually kinda offered to replace the sword but he actually paid for all my gas for the trip up to NY for that visit and he's in the process of purchasing a sailboat for his retirement home, so I was content just to have him help me straighten it. I love cutting for fun but I'm still more of a collector than user so as long as it looked good I'm happy knowing I have others to cut with still.
It was a good experience for him to get to try cutting. He used to see my collecting as just a waste of money but after his first cut (that was not in the vid it was with my Bushido Dragon Katana) he smiled and said "That is fun isn't it?"

As far as what to avoid with a sword... I alway tell people that if you are going to practice with a sharp single handed sword always have a shield in the other arm. Not only does it develop better form but it also protects you from having the sword come around and hitting you on the other side.
