It has come to my attention very few people know what very long sword techniques look like. O-dachi, Nodachi and Choken are a few of the names given to the very long sword [probably more]. It was originally used as a battlefield weapon, but many obscure schools have some very interesting techniques.

There are other schools that also use the O-dachi/Nodachi, the Bujinkan and it's successors, but this will do for a start.

Very interesting post which has answered many questions regarding the retention of the Nodachi and helped to dispel a few myths too.;)

Yeah, they removed it, and it was the best of all three.
It was the Soke of the Koden Enshin Ryu and his daughter [in the first video], doing kata and tameshigiri and Yadome-Jutsu [arrow stopping technique] with the No-dachi.
The tameshigiri was done on straw man dummies, and he cleaned his blade with paper before sheathing it. The kata's by his daughter were fantastic.
This was one of those TV show interview shows, it seems a lot of these are being removed on You Tube [no permission, maybe?]

Okay, Here is another one;

This is quite similar to the one they removed in my original post, Soke of the Koden Enshin Ryu and his daughter. Note the use of the No-dachi, and notice the cleaning of the blade with paper after Tameshigiri when they cut the straw.

Thanks for the videos Dotanuki, but why is she wearing the odachi on her waist? Wouldnt it be extremely hard to draw it form that position due to the blade lenght?

That is the way her style does it. She doesn't appear to have much of a problem of drawing her sword to me.
I started this thread because there were questions on how the longer swords were used, I believe it started with the cold steel nodachi thread in the new products section.
They were also worn on the back, but styles that have the longer sword as part of their syllabus, usually wear them at their obi. Check out the links on my earlier posts.
BTW, it just as hard to draw the long sword from your back as your your obi, actually harder. It all depends on how it is tied.
Usually when worn on the back, was more for battlefield application.

Didn't they have some of these that where so big they had to have someone hold the saya for them? This was very cool for me as I have no experience with these things.
