Well I have decided to take Ishi Yama Ryu through http://www.ishiyamaryu.com/index.php, I was originally going to take Nami Ryu but the bus doesn't go anywhere near there, and I can take the bus right to Ishi Yama Ryu. I was a bad boy 2 times and lost my license for a while :lager:, but since I have been sober for 5yrs, and I should be able to get my license soon so I can go to any class I want. I cannot wait to get back into training, and from what I have read and heard about Ishi Yama Ryu they dive right into drawing, sheathing, and cutting :celebration:. Anyways I just thought I would share this with yall

Taking a really cool step there,Brian.I've bought several books on iaido, read, studied, and placed them on the shelf, because I realize there is no substitute for a humane and willing teacher;someone recently said at the dojo"Practice makes perfect";to which Sensai remarked"Well....only perfect practice makes perfect.Practice wrong, and that's what you make-perfectly wrong!"

Please, let us know about your progress.
Respectfully,Tony

Thank You for the words of encouragement Tony, I appreciate it. I start Wednesday, I talked with the sensei today and he sounded very pleased to have a new student, especially one as eager to learn as me. We start out with bokken and sweats for a couple months then is right into live blades and hakama. He let me know the class is small, I think he said there are only 5 other students so we get allot of 1 on 1 time which is great for me. They do however want you to use their swords so I am selling a couple of mine to get one of theirs, which look very nice. Fingers crossed man, I hope this is what I have been looking for

I have heard of this school, just can't remember WHAT I heard. Does look like a good deal though, especially the small class size. Let us know how it goes. I've always wondered if being the class cut up was a good thing in a sword dojo.:jester:

First class is always an awkward one, getting to know their stance, which is much wider than anything I have ever seen (Ishi Yama - Stone Mountain School), Sensei is great, plus with the class size I can get allot of 1 on 1 time, which is good. The first cut I learned is the same one I do all the time, but a little different, more of a pulling motion rather than slashing. Still it was easy to pick up on cause I only had to change some minor things. I also learned a horizontal draw and slash, which has a higher degree of difficulty since it is one handed and you must keep the blade perfectly horizontal. All in all it was a good day of training, I need to remember to take more water next time, it has been in the upper 80's here which us north westerners aren't use to.
