I just wanted to add some links to Noto and Nikutsuke, also check out my comment on the Touching the Blade video, it is genius if I do say so myself http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ga2VTeMqluw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIYAmdQbQmE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCL0YfNmHoc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVQTBUmIk7k

He (KFKonard) is just yelling at everyone who says that you should NEVER touch the blade. He points at James William from Bugei in particular and then references some instances as to where Japanese sword practitioners do indeed touch their blade (in noto). That's really all I got before I stopped watching.
My extra tidbit -
It's a common misconception among "noobies" in the sword world that you should never touch the blade, regardless of the situation because of the acid and other remnants left by your fingers would speed up the rusting process. Thing is..as long as you care for your blade you should be all set. I alwasy wash my hands before dealing with my swords and when I do tuch the blade in noto I whip it down afterwards if I believe it to be necessary.

like Frozen said he calls out everyone that thinks they know what they are talking about cause James Williams made the comment you shouldn't touch the blade during Noto. I don't know how else your suppose to do Noto. Kris says that not touching the blade during Noto is like having an M4 but not being able to shoot it, the blade is made to cut flesh, and your not suppose to touch it, crazy talk. Did you catch my message to him about the wrath of JW?? I laughed my *** off when I was writing that

First, let me say this, there are many different styles out there, many different ways of doing the same thing.
All think their way is the right way!
It appears that KFKonrad was originally trained in a Iaido style, most of who touch their blade, to guide it in, during noto.
There are other "older" styles besides JW's that do their noto without touching, if you were trained in this manner you would know how to sheath your sword in this manner.
It appears KFKonrad was upset because someone critisized one of his videos for touching his blade during noto. When you put yourself out there on YouTube, you should be prepared for ignorant responses.
All he had to say is we don't do that way in my style, and a great many of other legitimate styles. His rant put him on the same level of those he was critisizing, not enough knowledge to make make such statements.
Unless you are graded or licensed in the sword arts, to make derogatory statements about one who is, is improper. Only when one is recognised by his peers (other licensed swordsmen) will such statements be valid.
In many ways his rant was correct, your sword is not sacrosant, to say you never touch the blade during swordsmanship is ridiculous. but in this case we are talking about sheathing not combat, cutting or even chiburi, if this was a ryu's way of doing this, how is it nonsense?
I have seen a great many of practices by famous swordsmanship schools that I totally disagree with, but the same is true for many other different martial arts.
People who are truely trained, have a different eye than those who are just learning. Only a student would write in and say Konrad was doing his noto wrong, trying to look knowledgeable.
Sword Instructors don't offer advice, unless asked.

SOoo...How do I do noto without touching the blade, LOL, can't blame a guy for trying. Great insights Dotanuki. Knowing these nuances of etiquette are important in JSA, IMO.

Ah, grasshopper?Kurgan?, If I were to tell you how, I guarantee you will feel quite foolish, after all this time in the martial arts, you ought to know the things that sound the hardest are quite easy when someone shows you how. ;)
This is how we separate those who truely know, from those who think they know.
If you really want to know (can't figure it out), send me a PM, but remember my lesson on giri (obligation), and what it means to take on instruction.
