When first thinking about buying this game I thought "I hate playing any game where the lead character is female". I figured I would rent it, beat it, and that would be that. For some reason, on impulse, I just bought the game. You should do the same.

The first thing that will wow you is the incredible graphics engine. Everything is super sharp and super detailed. From the impressive character designs to the cool combos, everything moves at a very steady framerate even when the physics engine is flying stuff all over the screen.

The voice acting and cut scenes were produced by Andy Serkis also known for his golloum in Lord of the rings. These scenes are without a doubt the coolest and graphical cut scenes that have ever been made. The voices for each character are fitting and the script plays out like a comic book.

The playability is not the games strongest point as you will find yourself doing the same combos over and over and also fighting the same enemies ad nauseum. They do break up the action with some neat mini games including one where you fire cannonballs at hords of incoming troops and they go flying all over by the hundreds. There is blood in the game, but very little and no gore.

I give this game an 8 out of ten for its sheer graphical force and great voice acting and mo-cap. I took points away for the use of the same enemies in all areas of the game. The sound should also be brought up as a high point because it is dynamic in that it waxes and wanes with your fighting. Anyone considering buying this because they like adventure/fighting games should at LEAST give it a rent.

Graphics 10/10
Sound 9/10
Playability 8/10
Replayability 7/10
Ingenuity 9/10
Fun Factor 8/10

My GF just got her first gaming system a PS3 80 gig which came with Metal Gear which I am sure is a great game but it held no interest to her, so last night I picked up Heavenly Sword and while I'm no gamer I have to say it was a hoot watching her play...The graphics were great as stated above along with the sound etc. but I think whats more important was the fact that it was a whole lot of fun even for a first time player...nothing is worse that getting a new toy and becoming frustrated with it because of your skill level.
