So.. explaining the title, I ordered my grosse messer from this place called The Blade Shop. I was worried after discovering they have bad reviews (After placing my order) But they got everything ready, and shipped it out on monday ( I ordered last friday)

I had to work today, thinking about my brand new grosse messer arriving. Finally after a boring 8 hour shift, I come home to see the nicely packed box. So grabbing a knife from the kitchen, I run and begin to cut the tape. and un pack it. The sword came in a a couple cardboard boxes, itself was covered with bubble wrap. I do a quick sharpness test. It cuts paper just fine. I lift it up, shake it a little and hear a rattle. After a few more rattles, I conclude the guards loose. Not a huge deal, could probably fix it myself. It had a nice fit in the sheath.

Now the bad part.. I examine the blades edge. The polish is nicely done, but for whatever reason theres some a few thin patches of an adhesive of some sorts. (Could be from scabbard.) Again, I can live with that that. (And fix it easily.

But then I look at the end.. the blade has two chips in it. Right now Im still kind of in dis-belief that I got a blade sent to me that has chips in it..

That's a common problem with stores/distributors that do not check the blades ahead of time. I noticed that that store offered it for the cheapest price, but something you may not know is that SOM offers a price match guarantee (http://www.swordsofmight.com/index.asp?PageAction=Custom&ID=7)

Sorry to hear about your sword though, that's the worst thing that can happen - you wait soo long for it to come (wait seems like eternity) and then for it only to have flaws in it is unacceptable - the site should offer a refund or a new one as it is a defective product

I would of bought from SOM, but they are out of stock. So I went with cheapest price..

The thing about the blade shop.. is they are drop shippers.. so they don't actuallly stock things they sell.

I'm going to talk to them tomorrow.

I bet anything that the item is second hand. (Which is common with drop shipping.)

Ninja;
that's always disappointing when that happens after you've waited on pins and needles for a sword to arrive. I learned the hard way about checking the sources before ordering from them. today there's only 2 places i order swords from. Swords of might, of course, and Kult of Athena. I have never had a bad sword from either place, and i know that if i ever do, they will stand behind their products and make it good. you must be familiar with a place before you order from them. if you're not sure, ask someone here first. i'm sure i speak for everyone when i say we'll all be glad to help. I'm not preaching, just trying to help. remember, customer service is at least as important as the product. best of luck. ;^)

Cardinal rule #1 my friend, always buy from someone who actually stocks the swords you want to buy. that way they have handled it, are familiar with the product, and can inspect it before it goes out to the customer. believe me i got burned before i learned.......hey! i'm a poet!!......;^)

Oh I know. I learned the hard way. :) The shipping was actually pretty decent since it came from san diego, (and I live in oregon, so it didn't take long.) However.. Im not buying from them. and my only worry is that it will be an uphill battle to get a refund.

Though Im not planning to get another from them, Im just getting a refund and buying from SOM or Kult of Athena (Depending on who has in stock, ect.)

Im not as upset as I think I should be.

Oh also noticed that theres a ring of rust on the spine of the blade. I dont know how considering that thing had more oil on it than a body builder on stage (I know, bad line.. but Im trying to keep it clean.)

Too, bad....and I just got them back in stock. You can always ask me if an item is out of stock, usually I can get one here in a few days. Sorry about your bad luck.

The Templar Knight Sword. I know that they are out of stock right now, but I'm not planning to buy it until about September anyways

I really like the look it has with the pommel on it.

Not putting you down Ninja, but that is why I only trust Jason and SOM for weaponry. Btw, I have a few questions reagrding tameshigiri, mostly to do with the stands you sell. first of all why is this one https://www.swordsofmight.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=590
more exspensive than an exact look alike,
https://www.swordsofmight.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=579
and when you use them, can you put hlaf the mat in it? Are there any holes in the sides where I could put something to hold it up out of the stand a little more?

Im very much with you on this one. I would buy a Gen 2 sword from him, but he doesn't carry their products.

Yeah it is a very nice sword, Rene. I can't wait to get it.

Honestly, they are about the same. The cheaper one comes in 2 pieces and the more expenisive one comes in one piece and is slightly more heavy duty. As far as the mats, I would only use the bigger mats. The cheaper one also has holes in the side that you can use to put screws in to stabilize the tatami.

ninja;
speaking of Generation2, I have the new Gen2 Henry V sword, an exact and i do mean exact replica of the sword in Westminster abbey that is believed to have belonged to Henry V. It's a cut and thrust sword with no fuller and an acute point, blade only 28 inches long. great scabbard too and it actually fits the scabbard properly. Gen2 blows Cold Steel right out of the water, in my not so humble opinion. If anyone is interested let me know and I'll do a review in the appropriate place on the Forum. By the way, I buy ALL my Katana from a place called Swords of Might, a great place in a state called Pennsyltucky i believe. the owner and I went to different schools together, except he graduated. WHAT!? me fail English??? UNPOSSIBLE!! >:)
