Just wondering if anybody has one of these SBG $300 custom katanas yet? I think I'm going to get one as they do look good and they seem to be of perrty good quality. If anyone knows anything about them please let know thanks.

Peace is a lie there is only passion.

Welcome to the Forum Corundum, I am not aware of anyone having one yet, but the blades defiantly look good for the price, the fittings I am not thrilled about but those are easily replaced, I think for $300 it is well worth it if your looking for a customized piece.

ya the price is whats got me. And as far as the fittings go like you say they are easily replaced but acroding to the review they should be just fine no looseness. but ya the blades do look good don't they and thats the main thing.

through passion I gain strenth.

Just checked these out, and I gotta say, the blades are very, very nice.

No one will have one of these blades on their hands for another several weeks. Only Paul Southern (SBG owner/operator) has one at the moment. I believe he stated that it will take approximately 7 months to produce. He did a very nice review of it though (no way he could give it a bad review but he does show a lot of the blade and how well it cuts)

FrozenIpaq I've talked with Paul and he said that it will only take 8 to 10 weeks to produce not 7 months he actualy seemed a little angry at the whole 7 months thing you mentioned lol. Anyway I'll let you guys know what they are like when i get mine thanks guys.

Sorry, that was a typo - I meant weeks :/ it was late last night after an extremely long day. If you noticed I said several weeks to produce and then some reason threw 7 months in their later - it was supposed to be 7 weeks

Yeah, I apologize for the screw up :p I was at classes all day long and out of my dorm from 9am-10pm (going to classes - 8hrs worth, studying, running errands) so when I got back I was a bit drained.

I started a thread on this "mystery katana" the other day and was inquiring about the T-10 steel (I know Hanwei has used T-6). From what I've gathered, T-10 holds its edge very well but also rusts fairly quickly (although don't all blades if not properly cared for?). Several different blades you can get, each seems to have it's own advantages or disadvantages - no blade is perfect.

If I had 300$ to spend I would be torn between the SOM katana and this customization t-10 from SBG - but I think I would go with the SOM kat ;)

I am sure either one will be well worth the money...

Most definitely both will be worth the money (customizing a katana for under $300 is quite a steal IMO). Both are great swords and I would love to get both if I could

I haven't seen the som katana yet but I've always wanted a custom katana and the price was right but now I'm going to have to check the som one out. I'm still sold on the custom thing though I just feel it makes the sword truly yours.

through power I gain victory.

Don't get me wrong, I could offer the same exact deal as Paul. The difference being my sword will be differentially tempered and be 50-100 dollars cheaper. If anyone wanted to pay 300 dollars, I could offer the same deal.

J, personaly I just cant wait for that first shipment of our SOM sword to get here! I have the 6th rung of my 8 tier stand all dusted off and ready. Only 2 more spaces untill I can look at that display and=P~=P~=P~.
If customizing becomes an option at a later date, hell yeah I know where my loyalties lie!! You just tell me where to sign, you already have the address!!!

I wish more companies offered at least a couple options, the thing I would like is to have the finish of the saya be an option, I perfer the Kuroishimi (textured) saya finish.

corundum

I went with the textured finish because well ya I perfer it as well. I also sure that it will keep all thoughs finger prints and scatches off of it. I do wish there were more colours to choose though but hey you can't win them all right.

through victory my chains are broken.

Jason, getting this saya finish (kuroishimi) is a plus in my book as well.

:celebration: My favorite kind of saya finish as well - it's one of the reasons I picked the first katana I got (the saya finish...something so small, yet big in my book).

I will see if that is an option.

I like 1095, it is a good spring steel and can be tempered to an awesome edge. I am a little biased since it is the steel I use but for good reason.;)

anyone know anything about this t-10 steel?

Taygrd

It is a high carbon steel that can hold an edge well. I think part of it's appeal to the manufactures is that it is readily available in China.
