Hi everyone

A few years back my beloved grandfather passed away. He served his entire life in the Royal Danish Infantry as premiere leutenant. In his late years in service he was appointed combat instructor. I present his personal parade saber, which was given to me resently, when my grandmother passed away.

This is a Danish standard military saber, with (genuine I'm told) gold cord (presumably showing his rank). The handle is wrapped in shark skin with gold threads tying the shark skin in. It has a very nice balance with the weight center and a doubble edged tip.

I don't know anything about sabers, but I feel honored to have this saber passed on to me, to take care of it - and with it, care for my grandfathers memory. He tought me wilderness survival, astronomy, math and gave me a life long passion for outdoor life, mountain climbing and camp fires.

Well, I guess my hope is that all of you saber-lovers will enjoy seeing a Danish saber...if you never saw one before. Or if any of you know something about this type of saber, I would apreciate any info.

Well my EX always said that I was a font of useless knowledge, but some of that knowledge has come in handy lately.
A couple of months ago I helped a guy in England with some reasearch on slingshots and he was kind enough to send me two that his casting company makes for my help.
A few weeks ago I corrected a Ebay listing ( I know it's strange but I can't stand to see people with totally off the wall discriptions) anyway he had just bought out a estate and had some things that he didn't have a clue on, he asked me to help him out. No real research all he wanted was a name and brief discription, so for about ten minutes worth of time over a couple of weeks I have a Scottish Court Sword by Hanwei and a Venetian Stiletto by Windlass coming as payment.
Not bad for useless knowledge...

Hello everyone!

I've finally gotten to customize another katana. I could say this is my 2nd full customization where I also customized the saya.

This is just a 1060 carbon steel katana with a wire brushed hamon that I bought from a local dealer here in the Philippines and the price and quality is quite good.

Here's what the katana originally looks like:

This is just a low budget customization and was done in installment.

The first thing I did was changed the tsuba, twice. Ended up using the tsuba from my Hanwei Practical Special Katana. Then modified the habaki to make it look like a 2-piece construction habaki. I think you've already see this modified habaki before.

Then I stripped off the original lacquer, reshaped the sayajiri, and bought a can of spray and re-lacquered it.

I re-used some of the fittings I had laying around. I used the same fuchi-kashira. Replaced the original brass dragon menuki with a pair of brass kabuto (samurai helmet) menuki that I had for a long time that was waiting to be mounted. Added 2 additional seppa. Then nickel plated everything.

I re-wrapped the tsuka with black synthetic silk tsukaito, also in hinerimaki style. The outcome would have been better if I used silk tsukaito and mounted quality fittings from Japan. Maybe when I have enough funds, I'll work on this one again. But for now, this will do.

Here are the before and after photos of the tsukamaki:

More photos of the finished tsukamaki:

Before I placed the kashira, the end knots were almost perfect. But after placing and hammering it for a tight fit, it compressed the end knots.

And here's the mounted katana...

The saya was done in a silver gray stone finish. This was just my 2nd time lacquering a saya and I really don't have a skill for it so it's not a very good job. I also removed the wire brushed hamon and polished the blade with a satin finish.

There you go! I hope you like my "Gin no Senshi" or Silver Warrior katana.

Thanks!
I'll be making it all ,Tsuka, saya, habaki, tsuba, fuchi, seppa, and the menuki.
Again this is for custom and production swords NOT A NIHONTO dont try to save money by trying to restore a antique blade yourself with out the proper training

Now it wont all be in this order i'll be making thing's as the material comes or when i get board and switch to a other part of the project. But as i update with new vid's ii'll organize it in this page.

So to start off on a bare blade you need the habaki if you have one that came with the sword then you can jump strait to the saya and tsuka...
If you plan on making your own habaki then this basic rundown of habaki making may help....

Hi everyone,
As the title suggests this is a remake of my first custom katana. The reason for this remake is due to the fact that the blade that I received for my first custom, was poorly constructed (not tempered and maybe not even high carbon steel IMHO). So I found a new katana, the Paul Chen elite katana from SOM and it was in my price range for a new blade. Here are some photos (because a picture is worth a thousand words) of the two blades and I’m going to attempt a switch of the furniture on the first to the Paul Chen I’m going to keep the ito from the Paul Chen because I grew attached to it since it seems to be a synthetic leather. (WARNING LOTS OF PICS and also the pics appear darker than before I uploaded them)

I managed to fit the tsuba and the fuchi onto the Blade, and I also sanded the habaki to give it a better shine

This is what the finish tsuka would look like if it wasn’t wrapped and the sharkskin or rayskin (haven’t decided yet) wasn’t on it yet.

I was hoping to reuse the tsuka, but as you will see, The tsuba was too big and the holes do not match, So I will be making a new tsuka.

Thanks for reading if you have any questions, I will try to answer, and as always any and all suggestions will be accepted (especially if you think it should have real rayskin or real sharkskin, I have both).
